MLK Showcase Shows Preview into Playoffs

The MLK Showcase put on by St. Mary’s Stockton is always filled with action and competition. Where Northern California attracts teams throughout all of California, Nevada, and Oregon. Teams to preview heading into playoffs.

Vanden- High energy fast paced team. Depending on the night they can have a very good shooting night from outside. Led be Houston commit Julia Blackshell-Fair with assistance from 2018 Myli Martinez, 2017 Kaelee Campbell, 2018 Deirdra Huff, 2019 Jenessa Herrera.

West Campus- Doesn’t have much size but their PG’s are tough and lead the way. Led by 2017 Namiko Adams, 2018 Kiara Jefferson, 2020 Gabby Rones, and recently added the Johnson sisters.

Bishop O’Dowd- Very aggressive, high intensity team that get it done more so in and around the basket. Tenacious guards led by 2017 Myah Pace, 2019 Jada Holland, 2018 Zakiyah Mahoney, 2018 Jordan Gudger, 2020 Daylee Dunn. They face St. Mary’s Stockton this Saturday so should be a good one.

Cardinal Newman- Of course has a well balanced squad from guard play to size down low. They have to find toughness and show that they can beat teams that play in your face defense. They have offense in 2018 Tal Webb, 2019 Avery Cargill, 2017 Hailey Vice-Neat, 2018 Maiya Flores, and size from Lauren Walker.

St. Mary’s Stockton- Has lost players due to injury and same for other programs at this time. They still managed to beat a good West Campus team and has another tough game against Bishop O’Dowd. They are still led by 2018 Neenah Young, 2019 Jada Moss, and 2020 Amaya Oliver. We will see who else steps up this weekend.

Salesian- With the loss of their Senior PG, they can still compete. Several players have stepped up and need to continue to lead as best as they can. Salesian has lost some close games down the stretch to good teams, so hopefully going into playoffs they can deliver. They get scoring from 2019 Angel Jackson, 2018 Sydney Stewart, 2018 Taimane Hardee, 2019 Makayla Edwards, 2018 Taisia Fleming, 2019 Anjel Galbraith.

Archbishop Mitty- They are on a roll right now and haven’t lost since Nike TOC. This team has the pieces to win State from having size, good ball movement, solid guard play, and team chemistry. Led by 2017 Madeline Holland, 2019 Haley Jones, 2017 Tahlia Garza, 2018 Karisma Ortiz, 2017 Heleyna Hill.

Clovis West- Another lethal squad that can move the ball and shoot it. We all expect for them to be fresh coming into playoffs. Interesting to see how playoffs will go. Predicting a Archbishop Mitty vs Clovis West in the finals. This team has many seniors that want to win it before they go out. Led by Bre Sanders, Sarah Bates, Tess Amundsen, Danae Marques, Megan Anderson, Madison Campbell, etc etc.

Modesto Christian- A tough scrappy team that almost beat Vanden last week in double OT. You can’t sleep on this team. If they stay at their division Modesto should be at State. Led by the 2017 Warwick twins, 2017  Casandra White, 2017 Jasmine Spencer, 2019 D’aja Bryant, 2017 Rachel Smith.

Centennial- Should easily win State with their squad. Several D1 talent.

Heritage led by 2019 Jordan Sweeney, 2017 Sunmi Da Silva, 2018 Mikaila Wegenk, 2020 Abigail Muse.

Lincoln- Led by four seniors should be able to make a run in their division.

McClatchy- Hopefully they get healthy by playoffs as they have a nice squad as well. Led by 2017 Kamaree Donald, 2017 Courtesy Clark, 2019 Kamryn Hall, 2018 Richelle Turney, 2019 Nia Lowery.

Brookside Christian plagues with injury as well. Hopefully they can make a run in playoffs with five players.

South Medford: 2019 Ula Chamberlin 5’8 a scorer with D1 talent.
